Kahn Exterior

Set within a peaceful suburban landscape, this modern transitional retreat was designed to function as a quiet escape from daily demands. The renovation reshapes the home into a refined yet welcoming retreat, balancing clean architectural lines with natural materials to create an environment centered on comfort, privacy, and connection to nature.

Designed to support everyday living while maintaining a sense of calm, this whole home renovation reflects a contemporary approach to transitional design, where modern restraint and warmth work together to define a true residential retreat.

This project was in collaboration with Caswell Daitch Architects.

Reconfiguring the Home as a Retreat

Prior to renovation, the home’s interior felt segmented and visually disconnected from its surroundings. The renovation focused on reshaping the layout to function more like a retreat, with improved flow between living spaces and clearer visual relationships throughout the home.

Structural adjustments allowed primary rooms to feel more open and composed, reducing unnecessary transitions and creating spaces that encourage relaxation. The result is a retreat-oriented layout that supports both quiet moments and informal gatherings without feeling overly programmed.

Light, Materials, and the Language of a Retreat

Interior finishes were selected to reinforce the sense of retreat through balance and restraint. Clean detailing is paired with warm textures and natural materials, allowing each space to feel composed rather than decorative.

Expansive windows are central to the retreat experience, bringing natural light into the home while framing views of the surrounding landscape. These openings transform everyday living areas into retreat-like spaces that respond to the rhythms of daylight and season.

A Retreat That Opens to Nature

One of the defining qualities of this renovation is how the retreat engages with the outdoors. Enlarged window openings and reoriented interior spaces establish a continuous visual dialogue with the surrounding environment.

Rather than competing with nature, the architecture reinforces it, allowing the retreat to feel grounded and connected. The home functions as a place of restoration, where interior spaces feel protected yet visually expansive.

Built to Support Long-Term Comfort

Behind the calm and clarity of the finished retreat lies a disciplined construction process. Structural coordination, system upgrades, and precise execution were essential to delivering a home that performs reliably over time.

Every phase of the renovation reflects FineCraft’s commitment to craftsmanship and detail, ensuring the retreat is not only visually refined but built for long-term comfort and durability.

Supported by decades of residential renovation expertise, this modern transitional retreat offers a balanced environment where architecture, material, and landscape work together to create a lasting sense of ease.
